Why Choose Pennsylvania Virtual Charter School?

Why should you choose PAVCS for your home-based education?

As the premier virtual school in Pennsylvania, we offer a structured yet flexible, interactive environment to prepare students for optimal academic and social development from Kindergarten through 12th grade.

Pennsylvania Virtual Charter School’s mission is to provide Pennsylvania students with an excellent education, grounded in high academic standards, to help them achieve their full scholastic and social potentials. We serve as a model of how a school’s parents, students and teachers can reach their goal of achieving an excellent education through the effective use of technology. In concept, design and delivery, Pennsylvania Virtual Charter School is a model of innovation and excellence.

All young people can achieve academic excellence if they are provided rigorous instruction, high standards, informed guidance, and individual attention. Although we use the computer as a learning tool, we believe that education is primarily a human endeavor that relies on caring individuals, involved parents and committed teachers partnering to nurture student growth.

Fulfill Your Child’s Greatest Potential

Parents choose the Pennsylvania Virtual Charter School for a variety of reasons:

Technology

Blackboard

Blackboard is the platform Pennsylvania Virtual Charter School uses to provide parents with access to school announcements, community, and the online school. In order to maintain up-to-the-minute updates, Pennsylvania Virtual Charter School provides a PAVCS-specific e-mail address for all students.

With the Blackboard Academic Suite, Pennsylvania Virtual Charter School has created a virtual central “school house” where students, faculty, and parents access all Pennsylvania Virtual Charter School resources – e-mail, instructional materials, announcements, course listings, class materials, and discussions – in one easy-to-find and secure online location.

Streamlining communications, content management and administrative practices with the Blackboard Academic Suite allows Pennsylvania Virtual Charter School to augment our rigorous curriculum and instruction while staying ahead of the curve technologically. For example, Pennsylvania Virtual Charter School is the first institution to utilize e-mail functionality through the Blackboard web site to create a ‘one-stop shop’ where every member of the Pennsylvania Virtual Charter School educational community can attend classes, receive school news, access educational resources, and coordinate events.

Elluminate

Elluminate is Pennsylvania Virtual Charter School’s classroom and teachers desk. The white board is the teacher’s chalkboard, bulletin board, overhead projector, and display. Elluminate is used by the teacher to instruct, conference, hold office hours for individualized help, or give students the chance to get to know each other.

Office hours are intended for use by parents and students. Parents or students can enter into a teacher’s Elluminate classroom during the teacher’s office hours to ask questions related to content of a subject, ask about grades, or other general matters related to the student’s education and/or procedures for participating in the Pennsylvania Virtual Charter School school environment.

We do request that the academic coaches be available to check over work and in general help students to remain focused while participating in a session.
